Ottoman Turkish Empire Settlement Payments
Of course it’s tax time here in the US, and I recently finished our taxes. I use TurboTax like I’ve done for years. As I went through all of the pages of interview questions, I came across something that I have not noticed in previous years. I think this was in the California State portion of the program. You’re asked about all sorts of income that someone might possibly earn, but which are not common. One of these pages had the following set of questions about where your income might have come from:

Now, am I forgetting something? The Ottoman or Turkish Empire was founded in the 13th century and, I believe, dismantled after World War I. A quick search of Wikipedia confirms this. According to this article the Ottoman Empire ceased to exist in 1922. How is it possible that anyone would at this point, in 2006, be able to receive income from Ottoman Turkish Empire Settlement Payments?
